racer_x answered 6 years ago. i'd agree with boholmark. brake pads are worn out and either 1 of 2 scenarios. replacing the pads and resurfacing of the rotors. replacing both pads and rotors (more expensive). ask the mechanic if the rotors can be resurfaced. since this a front wheel drive car, you may only have to worry about front pads & rotors.

the grinding noise could be from the rotor being rusty after all the rain or the grinding noise could be from worn out brake pads. i recommend having someone pull off your wheels and check the area where the grinding noise is coming from, this will give some idea on how much brake pad is left and if there is debris caught in the brakes causing some of the noises.

hi this is my first post here, slight grinding from the brakes is very common when parked a while, normally this does clear when in use again after a couple of miles, as other posts have said jack up the suspect wheel and spin it to identifiy the noise, it most likely wont be a bearing as previously posted or the noise would have been there

it sticks around for a few minutes, loud grinding whenever i use the brakes, then goes away again, often for hours. the car has around 65k miles on it and i'm fairly sure still has the original brakes - no problems before now. and even now, i feel absolutely no different in how the brakes perform, but the noise is concerning me.

the rear brakes are tricky due to integral parking brake mechanism, the piston has a cross pattern on it, that should be oriented so that the cross legs straddle a pin on the back of the inside pad. if it's not oriented correctly, riding on the pin, that could be the problem, it will cause persistant brake
