the drum is off track. hence the squeaking and opening that clothing falls through. if it's gas, shut off the emergency supply line. disconnect all fitings (electrical lines, gas lines, vent tubes etc). remove the screws which keep the 'white' housing in place and you'll see the bare drum and lots of lint.
can you run the dryer with the top off? the old ones i worked on could run this way, then you can watch for how the belt falls off. you might have to hold some safety switches down (that prevent you from running it with panels missing). you mentioned the drum 'had some friction,' so it could be falling off
